The "Ike Approved" series of hooks from VMC were designed with the help of 2003 Bassmaster Classic Champion Mike Iaconelli. The Rugby Jig is a uniquely shaped shakey head jig which is ideal for soft plastic worms, creature baits and Senkos. The jig's head is actually a cross between a round ball head and football head. The shape is most accurately compared to the shape of a rugby ball, hence its name, and it is one of the most versatile jig heads for bass fishing applications. You can fish it over rocks or gravel, through weeds, around boat docks - anywhere you can think to throw it. Upon free fall it imparts a killer side-to-side, rolling action to the attached bait. The Rugby Jig is built around an offset, extra wide gap hook that allows anglers to Texas-rig soft plastics of all types, while also increasing the hook up ratio. A recessed line eye even protects against snags, weeds, and abrasion from underwater obstacles. We find this jig head to be excellent for standard shakey head applications, however, the larger sizes not commonly available in most shakey head jigs, really expands the field of use into deeper water and larger baits.
