The Gamakatsu Magnum Assist Hook is a circle style stinger hook designed for use on vertical jig lures commonly used for the larger Halibut jigs. The Gamakatsu Magnum Assist Hook presents a solution to the common issue of missed strikes that are a result of fish striking the head of the lure when using vertical jigs. The setup is comprised of a short shank circle hook, heavy braided line and shrink tubing for added connection strength between the hook and braided loop. The Gamakatsu Magnum Assist Hook is designed with small subtleties that increase the overall quality. First and foremost, the hook is specially designed with a micro out-barb that won't catch or fray the main line. Additionally, the use of red braided line and shrink tubing increase the stealth of the lure and may even add attraction as an artificial blood trail. The strength of the braided line isn't an issue as Gamakatsu uses 200lb test for the Magnum Assist.
Gamakatsu Magnum Assist Use
The Magnum Assist Hook is used as a stinger with the vertical jigs, typically when targeting Halibut. To connect the hook, run the red braided loop through the eye of the lure and loop the hook back through the loop. Once the loop is pulled tight it will remain in place and serve as a stinger hook for increased hook up ratio. We offer the Gamakatsu Magnum Assist Hook in two sizes 8/0 and 10/0, each pack contains two hooks.
