The "Ike Approved" series of hooks from VMC were designed with the help of 2003 Bassmaster Classic Champion Mike Iaconelli. The VMC Wide Gap hooks offer the advantage of a 3-degree offset point, a trick enlisted by tournament pros for years to increase hookup percentages. The closed resin eye eliminates the risk of line slip through or line fray from the hook. We recommend this hook when fishing Carolina or Texas rigs and would also be quite suitable for weightless soft plastic stick baits. The main difference between the heavy duty wide gap and standard wide gap is the wire gauge. The heavy duty model is best for heavier lines, thicker cover and heavier weights whereas the standard models are more appropriate for fishing open water worms with fluorocarbon lines.
