The Tour Grade Slither Rig is a unique punching setup comprised of a tungsten punching weight with a skirt directly attached to it designed for penetrating heavy vegetation when bass fishing. The Slither Rig, from Strike King Lures, was designed to keep the components of a punch rig all in one package creating a more seamless presentation for all punching applications. Within the past five years the punching technique for big bass has exploded onto the scene.
"The Slither Rig will be perfect for getting a bait to those big bass that live in thick grass or under heavy mats," adds B.A.S.S. Elite Series pro Greg Hackney. "You can pair this bait with my Hack Attack hook and your favorite Strike King plastic and you have a punching and flipping bait that can go anywhere."
The popularity of the technique is due in large part to the tungsten weights which are far more compact than their lead counterparts and therefore are far more effective at guiding baits through the vegetation down to the bass waiting to ambush below. The addition of skirts to a punching rig was popularized by the original Paycheck Baits Punch Skirts and has since become one of the standard presentations utilized when punching. Combining both elements together affords a more compact presentation that will more effectively slither through the grass, hyacinth or wood. In order to employ the Slither Rig most effectively anglers should incorporate it using he following equipment: braided line - 50-80lb test, on the line attach two sinker pegs followed by the Strike King Slither Rig and a heavy, straight shank flipping hook such as the Greg Hackney Hack Attack Hooks. Finish the rigging off with your favorite soft plastic punch bait and you are ready to go.
